Statement
Merry-go-rounds have captured
my imagination since I was a small tot. At first, I suppose,
I was impressed by their vivid range of colors and the assorted
menagerie featured in their exciting ambiance. It was only
in my teens that I came to understand my fascination with
such an outlandish structural concept. A carousel is just
like life itself: You hop on for a ride, and if you really
want to you can choose your favorite place - if not, you
are limited to the vacant seats. Once you have mounted your
animal of choice, a loud signal rings to warn you that the
adventure is about to begin. Then, suddenly, the eagerly-awaited
ride starts: That wonderful merry-go round and all its
animals, lights, sounds and people starts moving, turning
in a full circle, always turning and turning. After a much-too-brief
time of excitement, the odd contraption comes to an unexpected
stop. Silence reigns again and people realize that it's time
to move out and leave room for a new generation of boys and
girls who are anxiously waiting to take a ride on "the
carousel of life."
