Renato Meziat
Master of illusions
Renato Meziat’s paintings reveal an immense technical ability allied to a penetrating pictorial intelligence. For all their evident precision and skill, the painter is not interested in viewers appreciating that aspect for its own sake. He wants his work to affect people the way his first artistic love, music, does. He says, “I don’t want to make people think. I want to make paintings so beautiful that when people see them they just can’t think of anything else.” Essentially a self-taught painter, Meziat’s technical proficiency is all the more impressive for being the result of years of trial and error and intense observation.

ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries To Represent Brazilian Realist
ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries is pleased to announce representation of Renato Meziat, a Brazilian autodidact whose hyperrealistic still lifes and figurative paintings have been exhibited since 1979 in such leading venues in Brazil and the United States as Hammer Galleries in New York City and Galeria Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro. “Meziat shares the ability of the best hyperrealists to render ordinary objects in such exquisite detail as to make each so precious that we look at it in a different, more appreciative manner, transcending actuality,” notes Virginia Miller, owner and director of greater Miami’s longest-established contemporary fine art gallery. “His paintings have a magical quality that defy description.”
